| BRIEF HISTORY |
|
Saint Joseph College has gone a long way from the time it was established in 1928 to the present. Its growth has been largely due to well-coordinated efforts and dedication of administration, teaching and non- teaching personnel, student, alumni, parents and its community. Several courses are now offered to meet the changing times. One of these courses is BS Accountancy which aims to prepare the students to adequately meet the growing demands for manpower in business, industry and in government service. Let me track the history of BS Accountancy. In 1960, Saint Joseph College offered Bachelor of Science in Commerce Major in Accounting. Thirty years later, the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) ordered to separate Accounting from the General Commerce courses. The Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) was then offered and was given recognition by the DECS with Government Recognition No. 03 series of 1991 duly signed by Eladio C. Dioko, Ph.D. who was the Regional Director and Charita C Canete, Ph.D. as chief of Higher Education Division. The recognition took effect on June 10, 1991.
The BS Accountancy course is under the umbrella of the College of Business Administration
spearheaded by its dean, no less than the Executive Vice President Crispin D. Arong, Sr., Mrs.
Ma. Essie Espina-Garvez, CPA, holds the position of Assistant Dean of the Department and at
the same time the Adviser of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA).
