| PRACTICAL NURSING DAY '08 |
|
On September 19-20 2008, the Practical Nursing Program celebrated ots second year Practical Nursing Days
with the theme, "Practiccal Nursing Students : celebrate God's gift of human talents to effects wellness and healing in the SJC Family
and the community."
The first day started with a Holy Mass at the Bonzel Hall presided by Rev. Fr. Harlem Gozo. It was followed by a long motorcade with
a route from SJC to Ichon, Ichon to Combado and back to SJC. Right after the procession of motor vehicles was the declaration of
the opening of the Practical Nursing Day 2008 by Mr. Crispin D. Arong Sr., the Executive Vice-President of Saint Joseph College. The
competitions to be contested began with the ceremonial tossing by the Executive Vice-President of the school. First, was the Dancing
Squad competition competed by the two factions of the Practical Nursing Department, the Nematodes which are composed of first year
students and the Cestodes of the sophomores. Then, the ball games concluded the first quarter of the celebration. The Cestodes dumped
the Nematodes by 19 points in men's basketball while the Nematodes triumed in reverse fashion in women's basketball where the Cestodes
scored only 2 points in the game. Same players got the same results in volleyball men and women categories at the covered court.
In the night of the same day, everybody was in the covered court for the Literary-Musical Contest bearing the solo and duet, balak and balitaw,
as woll as the modern dance mixed ballroom contests. It seemed the weather joined the celebration as it roared in the midst of the competition.
Even though it was stormy night, the show stil went on and it was ended by musical performances from some of our local bands in Maasin City. It
was the Cestodes' night since they dominated it with victories in most of the categories.
In spite of a rough night, the Practical Nursing students still managed to play in the games of low organization at the covered court in the morning
of the second and last day of the celebration. Still, the momentum of the Cestodes continued as the Nematodes won only one game in the series
of parlot games. But, what was thought to be the moment lf truth was the consultation of parents with respective teachers. Fortunately for the students,
only few parents showed up.
After the tireless efforts of the students and the teachers in the department, was finnaly the Awarding ceremony and Social's Night held at the
Covered Court in the evening. Part one was the dinner, the awarding of winners in the Literary-Musical contest, in sportfest and the over-all
champion was the second year, adn the disco officially closed the celebration.
The Practical Nursing Department expressed its deep appreciation and sincere thanks to all those in one way or another had supported and contribted
their talents, time, efforts and financial assistance in making the celebration succesfull. The department would also like to thanks to those who participated
in the 2nd anniversary draw in which the proceeds is for the procurement of projector. Mark Anthony B. Degamo |
