Today, December 3, we celebrate The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) 2025 with the theme “Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress”. This day is meant to be celebrated, and indeed, it should be celebrated. For this day reminds all of us that having disabilities doesn’t make people less human, like us, they think, they feel, and most definitelyโthey share the same dignity and rights.
Having a disability is not a disadvantage, even if society often views it as such. It could be treated as a unique characteristics a person is born with, something that makes them stand out. Despite the heavy discrimination they face, they continue to grow, thrive, and contribute to the advancement of our society.
As we celebrate this day, may we be able to create a world where inclusion isn’t just a theme but a daily practice. Let us choose compassion, advocate for accessibility, and celebrate the strength and individuality of every person. In doing so, we donโt just uplift those with disabilitiesโwe elevate our entire society.
