IPED SUMMIT
Maasin City, Southern Leyte β October 23, 2024 β Saint Joseph College (SJC) of Maasin City demonstrated its strong commitment to social responsibility and inclusivity through its active participation in the 2024 Regional Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) Summit held at the San Francisco Gymnasium, San Francisco, Southern Leyte. With the theme βKatutubuong Karunungan Tungo sa Ingklusibong Kaunlaran,β the summit served as a platform to celebrate cultural heritage and strengthen Indigenous Peoplesβ (IPs) access to education.
Led by the Community Extension and Services Office (CESO), Saint Joseph College organized a community outreach program in response to a needs assessment survey previously conducted in San Francisco and Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte. The initiative mobilized the entire college community in providing educational materials and essential goods to IP families.
Key contributions included:
- Senior High School students β sponsorship of school supplies for IP learners
- NSTP students β donation of assorted goods
- FCSO officers β provision of raincoats for IP children
- Faculty and Employees β contributions of rice for distribution to families
- Saint Joseph College Alumni β sponsorship of 250 pairs of slippers, delighting IP children during the summit
Saint Joseph College was the only academic institution that extended direct material support during the event, highlighting its mission to serve marginalized communities. The contributions were warmly received by IP leaders and families, who expressed their gratitude for the collegeβs generosity and continued partnership.
Saint Joseph Collegeβs participation not only provided immediate assistance but also strengthened its collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Local Government Units (LGUs) in advancing the Indigenous Peoples Education Program. The college reaffirmed its mission of promoting cultural appreciation, equity, and holistic development, ensuring that education and opportunities remain accessible to all.
