The SJC Senior High School Department successfully held its Suicide Prevention Program, a meaningful event dedicated to raising the importance of mental health and mental health awareness at the Upper BCG on December 10, 2025.

The program opened with a prayer led by Mr. Jolan Simborio, followed by the national anthem, the SJC hymn, and a thoughtful welcome message by Mrs. Agnes R. Basay.

Mr. Karl Cano, CELO and assistant SHSSG adviser, formally introduced the mental health advocates and set the tone for the purpose of the entire event. A game called “Stand Up If” was then played to encourage students to acknowledge shared experiences, to embrace their individuality, and to understand themselves more deeply.

The highlight of the program was the talk by Sr. M. Clare T. Bactasa, OSF. She shared a gentle yet powerful explanation of what mental health really is. She emphasized how emotional intelligence, teenage development, and the influence of social media all connect to our mental state. Her talk reminded everyone that mental health isn’t just the absence of problems but the presence of awareness, connection, and inner peace.

Sister Clare spoke with sincerity. She shared, “Those experiences you’re going throughโ€”whether heavy or confusingโ€”are part of being human. Two people may face the same situation but feel differently because each heart interprets life in its own way.” She added by saying that “we are wired to connect” and that healing often begins when we allow ourselves to be understood and supported.

The “shout out” activity followed, giving the students a chance to express gratitude and appreciation for their classmates and loved ones.

Before the program concluded, students were asked to turn to the person beside them and offer one sincere compliment or encouraging word for them to listen sincerely and learn to accept kindness with openness and gratitude.

Certificates of appreciation were awarded to the speakers and facilitators, and the event concluded with heartfelt closing remarks by Ms. Jiceryl A. Bongabong, who served as the host for the event.

To every Josephinian, please be reminded that your feelings matter. You are never alone. And that healing truly begins with the kindness you choose to give yourself.
