Every October 20, the Philippines commemorates the Philippine-British Friendship Day, which marks the friendly, warm, and open relations between the Philippines and the United Kingdom. This celebrates the beginning of the warm diplomatic relations between the two countries, relations which have grown in mutual respect and continued partnership for the many decades since.

The Philippine-British relations in diplomacy are entrenched in the exchange of education, culture and trade, and the people of the two nations. Several Filipinos are trained and are in the professional workforce in the United Kingdom and British enterprises are part of the trade relations to Philippine economic growth and innovation. This culture exchange promotes mutual respect and understanding and, of course, economic relations.

The United Kingdom and the Philippines have collaborated in many facets of global activism that include education, climate justice and peace. The October 20 Friendship Day is the testimony that relations are built on trust, a shared vision and goodwill, rather than on legal and diplomatic agreements for economic gain. This is a testimony of the goodwill that even the far apart continents and oceans can be overcome.
